Okay, for right now I am here to be quite blunt. Many people now a days are taking music genre's like Indie, Indie Pop, some Gothic Rock, a little bit of Folk, and even 80's New Wave and compiling them into one music genre. I would personally love to take a minute and say, no no no. Bands like The Cure, Sisters of Mercy and Bauhaus DO NOT fall under the same music genre as bands like Passion Pit or Walk the Moon. The first set of bands are 100% completely different from the second set. Take the song Marian (Sisters of Mercy) and compare it to Anna Sun (Walk the Moon) and you'll see that the two are no where close to being the same. Why people are attempting to place the two into the exact same 'made up' music genre doesn't seem to make sense to me. I put emphasis on made up because, well, Hipster ISN'T a music genre. It's a label made up by society for people who were trying to escape being labeled (kind of ironic). Now it's just a confusing stereotype that some people use, while others get extremely mad when called it. And people are usually only called it, based on what they're wearing, not what they are listening to. The funny thing is, all the music that people tried telling me are Hipster bands, you can find on most "popular" radio channels that majority of teenagers listen to.
