About 4 days ago I started reading the Catcher in the Rye, which everyone says is a "great American classic". I on the other hand, had a very hard time figuring out why. Many different times there would be the same sentence twice, one right after the other (except the second sentence was just revised). I'm guessing that's how Holden was intended to talk, either way it made it hard for me to keep reading. The main thing that made it hard for me to keep reading on was the simple fact that the book didn't seem to have any main purpose, just some annoying kid that wont stop blabbering about how horrible his life is. Which in all honesty is his fault. I'm sure "old Sally Hayes" would have given him a chance if he wasn't pushy and rude. And seriously, you meet up with an intellectual friend and the only thing you can do is ask unwanted sexual questions. All in all I would give the book half a star. Definitely not one I would want to read again. Ever.
